The Printing Charity - Fundraising and Events
Here at The Printing Charity we are always looking for ways to bring people together from the printing, publishing and graphic arts trades with one view in mind – to spread the word about our charity, make the public aware of the good work we do and raise money to continue to help those less fortunate than ourselves!

We celebrate our 184th Annual Luncheon

We were delighted to welcome guests from the printing and publishing industries to our 184th Annual Luncheon held on 3 November at Stationers’ Hall, London.
Our guest speaker this year was Alan Samson of Weidenfeld & Nicolson, one of the UK’s leading publishers. He spoke on ‘The Printed Word’, entertaining guests with his anecdotes of working with celebrities like Catherine Deneuve, Julie Walters and Keith Richards during the past 30 years.
He went on to discuss the challenges for publishers in the digital age. The proliferation of blogs means that people can self-publish, whilst the public have embraced the new technology, with an estimated 2.4 million Kindles sold in the last 12 months. Nevertheless, he argued printers and publishers will continue to have a hugely significant role. There will still be demand for printed books, for instance as presents, because you cannot gift-wrap a download.
At the event, Bill Offer, our Chairman, received a Pro Merito award in recognition of his work for The Printing Charity over the past 13 years and in the printing industry. Thanking everyone for supporting the event, he said: “Even in these dire times, we know the charity is not reaching many of the people who need financial help. We’re asking everyone in the printing and publishing industries to spread the word that The Printing Charity has the resources to help.”
Print Industry Sports Calendar to raise funds for The Printing Charity
Over 100 guests from the printing and publishing industries attended the official launch at the RKB Gallery in London of a 2012 print industry sports calendar to raise funds for the charity.
The 2012 calendar’s theme is ‘industry people as you’ve never seen them’, with each month featuring an industry figure in a sporting pose. Those who agreed to participate were from Apex, BPIF, Konica Minolta, Duplo, London College of Communication, Consorcio, Whitmar Publications, Ricoh, Heidelberg, Friedheim, Renz, and Premier Paper.
Stephen Gilbert, the charity’s Chief Executive, commented: “This is a wonderful industry collaboration led by Whitmar Publications on our behalf. Sonia Boriczewski photographed the industry figures for each month; design was provided by JKP Design & Illustration; paper by Premier Paper; printing by Konica Minolta; collating and trimming by Duplo; binding by Renz. Canon produced the launch event posters and RK Burt provided the gallery venue.
“Please spread the word about the charity. It’s your industry’s charity. We have the resources and we’re here to help.”
A donation of £10 is recommended per calendar, which can be ordered from Alison Braganza at The Printing Charity on 01293 649 366, email alison@theprintingcharity.org.uk.
