Choosing where to live in retirement
We understand that as one gets older there may be difficult decisions to be made regarding living arrangements. Often our existing homes become too big for us to manage and a move to smaller accommodation means less worry about things like house repairs and garden maintenance. In some cases it is not so much the size of an existing home but the lack of social interaction which can cause loneliness and distress for the older person. In other cases the onset of old age means we need additional support with day to day living, such as eating, bathing and dressing.
If you meet our criteria (listed under ‘Who’ in the section ‘About Us’) there may be an opportunity to move into one of our sheltered apartments.
Our sheltered apartments are located at Basildon in Essex and Bletchley in Buckinghamshire. Both premises are purpose built and offer independent living in a caring and safe environment. Each apartment is self-contained and residents can come and go as they please, socialising with their neighbours if they so wish or maintaining their own privacy.
Whilst most of us would prefer to stay in our own homes throughout our lives, if circumstances are such that this is not feasible, it is good to know that The Printing Charity is here to help. If you feel we can be of assistance please download an application form from our Documentation Centre or contact Ian Larkham on 01293 649362.
