Local MPs drop in for tea and biscuits at Southwood Court, Basildon
John Baron, MP for Billericay and District and Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock enjoyed tea and biscuits with residents and staff when they recently visited Southwood Court, our sheltered accommodation scheme in Basildon.
The visit, organised by Stephen Gilbert our Chief Executive, was an opportunity for the MPs to meet residents, who have, or have a close family member who has worked in the printing industry. They were also given a tour of the accommodation and facilities on offer at Southwood Court.
Mr Metcalfe, who comes from a print background, said: “I was very impressed with the facilities – it’s just like living in your own home. The residents are very active too, organising social events like barbecues and race nights.”
Mr Baron agreed: “It was obvious from the smiles on their faces as they showed us around that the residents really enjoy living there. Congratulations to the team who run Southwood Court and to The Printing Charity for all their hard work. We’re hoping to return the invitation with a tour of the House of Commons, possibly in the New Year.”
