2023 Rising Star Alumni: Darryl Worbey – A Path to Leadership and Growth

Darryl Worbey

“Continuous learning is what’s setting me on the right path towards my leadership aspirations. The support I’ve received and the skills I’ve gained are helping me approach every project with a strategic mindset and renewed confidence.”

Since winning The Printing Charity’s Rising Star Award in 2023, Darryl Worbey, Client Strategist, Webmart, has used continuous learning to propel his career forward. With a focus on developing leadership and management skills, Darryl’s journey highlights how dedication to self-improvement, coupled with employer support, can lay the foundation for future success.

How Continuous Learning Shaped My Career

Since receiving the Rising Star Award, continuous learning has been instrumental in shaping my career. The leadership and management course I’ve nearly completed has provided me with vital skills, such as strategic thinking and effective communication, which are preparing me for future leadership roles. Although I’m not leading teams yet, my goal is to step into those positions with confidence. These skills have also enhanced my collaboration and influence within projects, giving me a solid foundation for my leadership aspirations.

Valuable Skills Gained

The most valuable skills I’ve acquired have been strategic thinking and improved communication. These have transformed how I approach projects, aligning them with broader business goals. The course also sharpened my task prioritisation, which has been essential for managing multiple projects simultaneously. These skills have greatly impacted my day-to-day work and set me up for future opportunities.

Advice for Balancing Learning and Work

For anyone considering career-based learning while working, my advice is to go for it—but be realistic about your time. Setting clear goals and breaking the course into manageable steps helped me balance it with work. Don’t rush; take the time to absorb the material, focusing on what will truly benefit your career.

Employer Support and Its Impact

My employer’s support played a key role in my success. They encouraged me to pursue the leadership course and provided the flexibility I needed to balance work with learning. My manager’s regular check-ins and guidance were also invaluable in keeping me motivated and accountable.
