Chris got in touch with the Printing Charity in 2023 during a particularly tough time, including the onset of a serious illness which resulted in very reduced mobility and meant that he was unable to work.
“I was really struggling to make ends meet,” he explains. “I had worked for a number of years in the Printing trade and wondered if I could get any help, so contacted the charity as an enquiry first.”
Here, Chris talks us through his experience, in his own words.
No need to worry
“Diana was my first point of contact and had a very compassionate and friendly approach. This was important as I was feeling embarrassed asking for help. I needn’t have worried. The charity are marvellous and after completing my necessary paperwork I was contacted to organise the help that I needed.
“Initially, because I had moved to a new address on my own, I was struggling to buy basic furniture, such as a bed and chair, and the charity very kindly supplied these to me swiftly and even ordered and arranged delivery. What fantastic help!
“Soon afterwards, having discussed my situation further, I applied for financial support which I remain eligible for.”
Taking away stress and anxiety
“The financial grant has taken away so much of the stress and anxiety I was suffering with, as it has enabled me to take care of my day-to-day expenses and food costs. My children visit to help me every week, and the money means I can contribute towards their travel and food costs whilst they are with me, too.
“I am a really proud person and was struggling to initially ask for help, but I’m so glad I did reach out to The Printing Charity, because my situation has changed for the better. I now don’t worry quite as much about my financial situation and with the charity’s support I feel like I have friends who ‘are looking out for me’.
“I would highly recommend anyone who is genuinely struggling for whatever reason, and with links to the printing trade, to reach out and just ask. Asking doesn’t cost anything, and you never know unless you do. Thank you for everything to all the lovely people at The Printing Charity.”
