Marie* and her husband faced unexpected hardship through problems with property investments, which took many years to resolve and meant the couple lost their home and had to live with friends.
“This one mistake, which was impossible to foresee, had a huge impact on our lives,” Marie explains. “We had to sell lots of things to make ends meet.”
Eligible for support following a long career in print
Marie first contacted the Printing Charity at the suggestion of another occupational charity who felt that she and her husband could be eligible for greater support due to his extensive print history.
Initially, she spoke to the charity team about the possibility of funding for a new bed for her husband, whose health problems meant it was extremely difficult for him to sleep. While this application was being processed, he sadly passed away.
“At this point,” she recalls, “you did the most wonderful thing, and helped me pay for the funeral costs. This was mind-blowing, as it meant that I could continue to use what money I have to move into my own house after a long time living with others.”
“You’ll get the best welcome.”
Marie believes that anyone with a print industry background who finds themselves facing hardship of any kind should contact the charity to talk it through.
“Ring them up,” she urges. “You’ll get the best welcome, people are kind and caring, no-one’s patronising and everyone genuinely wants to help. You’re asked honest questions for honest answers, but this is not done in a cold or clinical way – it’s so clear that it’s done to help you. I now feel valued as a human being – the charity has so much to offer.”
