Support for The Journo Resources Fellowship Programme

Support for The Journo Resources Fellowship Programme

We’ve partnered with Journo Resources to help support an additional three places on their inaugural fellowship scheme, a programme for people who are just about to start work within the journalism field and have missed out on experience opportunities due to the pandemic.

The new scheme, which is aimed at those looking to start full-time work as journalists, offers one-to-one mentoring, online training, and the chance to create paid work for the Journo Resources website.

They had a huge amount of interest, with some 400 high quality entries currently being reviewed after applications closed in July. All applicants will receive feedback and the final selections are set to be made in early August.

Journo Resources, a non-profit organisation helping young people break into and progress within the journalism industry, was set up by 2019 Print Futures Award winner Jem Collins. She says “I’m thrilled to be working with The Printing Charity to bring more people into the JR Fellowship scheme. “We’ve been overwhelmed by both the level of interest in this scheme and the quality of applications and this will help us open up opportunities to even more people.”

Our support of three fellowships, combined with that from The Journalist’s Charity and The Society of Editors, now brings the total number of places on the scheme to nine.

Sophie Kirby, Head of Education & Partnerships, says “We’re really pleased to support the fellowship, as we know how much of an impact the pandemic has had on career paths across the sector. This new initiative aligns with our work to champion opportunities for rising stars to develop their professional skills and is a great way to help promote diversification in the journalism industry”.
