Rising Stars

His current role grew out of a work placement that was part of his MSc in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management at the University of Nottingham, building an optimised workflow and a data management roadmap.

He plans to use his Rising Star Award to pursue a Green Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma, which will give him advanced data analysis skills and a structured problem-solving methodology, allowing him to identify and eliminate inefficiencies in the company he works for and the industry overall.

He loves the fast pace of the industry and the quick turnarounds, as well as knowing that what is produced will be seen and read by people all over the country so consistency is key to providing good quality products for customers.

He plans to take ILM leadership and management training to help him move forward and further his career.

She started at LUP as an intern, before being hired full time. Her ambition is to become a more well-rounded editor, with an expanded knowledge that goes beyond academic commissioning and into trade and translation.

Her award will be spent on the Publishing Training Centre’s Editorial Project Management course, which will help her handle multiple projects and improve her ability to keep books moving through all the various production stages on time.

She joined the industry after graduating with a First-Class Honours in Illustration from Portsmouth University and worked at Little Tiger Group and Magic Cat Publishing before being approached by Hachette.

Her award will be spent on a Motion Graphics course with Escape Studios to build skills in 3D typography design as well as learning industry-standard software Adobe AfterEffects and Cinema 4D.

With a burgeoning interest in print and display, he was attracted to Data Image Group by the company’s wide remit of manufacturing and creation in print, exhibition and retail.

He plans to spend his Rising Star Award on a Sandler Sales Essentials training course, which will help him understand different elements of the sales process to make it more effective and efficient. He’s particularly attracted by the support sessions where he can hear other students’ challenges and how they are trying to overcome them which will help develop his skills and understanding still further.

Her first role in publishing was at EdTech publisher Imagine, working as an editor in the International Department. She’s since been promoted to work in the company’s Project Management Office.

She wants to spend her Rising Star Award on developing her project management skills by taking the Prince2 Foundation and Practitioner qualification, giving her the technical knowledge she needs to guide her work.

His award will help develop his graphic design skills, through both theoretical knowledge but also via improved capability on key packages such as Illustrator and Photoshop. He is also looking to improve his knowledge of teamwork and what it takes to fit in, knowledge that can be applied to his everyday work.
