Meet 2023’s Winners…

Matthew Stevenson

Technical Manager, Amberley Labels

Matt has been an estimator at Amberley Labels for just over a year, having previously worked in retail at both Tesco and Smyths Toys Superstore. He will spend his award on three courses: the CMI Level 4 Certificate in Management and Leadership; Finance For Non Finance Managers; and the IEMA Environmental Sustainability Skills for the Workforce Training Course. Alongside developing a portfolio of valuable leadership skills through his course choice, he hopes his enhanced sustainability knowledge will help him provide better information to customers in this increasingly-important area, as well as helping the company reduce its carbon footprint.

Giulia Maggiori

Senior Journal Manager, Oxford University Press

Giulia started at OUP as an Assistant Supplier Operations Specialist and has worked her way up to her current position managing key accounts. She’ll spend her award on the University of Canterbury’s The Organizational Psychology MicroMasters Programme and the CMI Certificate in Principles of Management and Leadership Level 3 course. Her ambition is to continue to advance her career, which will be supported by what she learns during the training funded by the Rising Stars, taking advantage of the many opportunities for growth and development within publishing.

Gemma McCarthy

Manager, RA Smart

Gemma is now part of the management committee at textile printing and manufacturing company RA Smart having originally joined in an administrative role in the fashion department more than four years ago. Her award will be used to undertake the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership. In the future she wants to learn more about new technology and printing options, building her personal knowledge to ensure the company can keep up with demand for more sustainable options.

Macauley Hardeman

Marketing Lead, Bluetree Group

Macauley has been with Bluetree Group for more than six years, working his way up from Junior Customer Service advisor to his current role as Marketing Lead for Route 1 Print, Bluetree’s B2B department. His award will be invested in the CMI Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership. He’s keen to develop his skills and become a better, more experienced leader, helping both his team and the business. His Rising Star-funded training will formalise this and guide his development.

Hannah Parry

Executive Assistant, Bluetree Group

Hannah works as EA to the Managing Director of the Print Division at Bluetree Group, taking ownership of key projects, including onboarding two new colleagues into the EA team. Her Award will be for the CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice. She will use what she learns during her training to achieve her ambition to become a manager of a team in the longer term, while also gaining a better understanding the industry in which she works.

Jamie Butterworth

Finance Manager, Dayfold Print

A qualified Chartered Accountant, Jamie started working in the print industry at the end of 2021, after more than a decade in other sectors. He will use his Rising Star Award to fund the CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice. He believes that the learning from the course will enable him to manage the finance department better, and also build his personal strategic capabilities, helping him to make a greater contribution to the strategic decisions of the company, and the industry as a whole.
