These stars are establishing themselves as the next generation of journalists, delivering the latest news and interesting stories with words, photographs, and film. A challenging industry within which to flourish, we are happy to provide equipment and crucial skills training to help them progress and reach their potential.
Benjamin Wareing
Benjamin chose to go into photojournalism to better reflect his community and prove there are no barriers to achievement. Having recently graduated from BA Hons Journalism at Staffordshire University, he has juggled his studies with photographing major events from terror attacks and elections to royal events and the Covid-19 pandemic. He will now focus on becoming a full-time member of the Royal rota and political press pack and he thinks the fact that someone from a deprived council estate is doing this is awesome and exhilarating.
Luke Dray
Reacting to breaking news is Luke’s passion, a freelance photojournalist, who has covered stories involving refugees, natural disasters, climate change, human rights, and civil unrest in Europe and Africa, predominately for Getty Images. His pictures have been used by TIME, The Sunday Times, and The Washington Post, amongst others. Awards include UK Picture Editors’ Guild Award 2019, Young Photojournalist of the Year. He hopes his work might make the world a better place for the communities he photographs.
Lottie Kilraine
Lottie loves the adrenaline and excitement of getting a new story out and is currently studying for an MSc in Journalism at Leeds Beckett University. Having previously graduated with a BA Hons degree in Photography and a Foundation Diploma in Film Production, her ambition is to become a multi-media journalist as she enjoys writing, reporting, and broadcasting. She currently freelances for the Huddersfield Examiner and has worked with the Yorkshire Evening Post, ITV News and the Financial Times.
Hannah Clarke
Females in sports journalism are few and far between and Hannah was the only female on The Yorkshire Post’s Sports Desk during her week’s work experience. She would love to help make a difference for women in sport and is studying for her Master’s in Journalism at Leeds Beckett University after graduating with a First Class Honours in Sport Business Management. She is passionate about sport and writes for The Women’s Football Magazine and Her Football Hub.
Freya Pratty
Freya loves talking to people and finding out their stories so working in print journalism is ideal for her. She has already had pieces covered in The Guardian, the Middle East Eye, Al-Monitor, and Suitcase Magazine, amongst others. Having recently completed her MA in Journalism in Paris, she plans to work as a freelance reporter in the UK covering stories across Wales and the West Midlands from where she hails because she feels rural stories are often overlooked.
Toby Bryant
Journalism has always been what Toby wanted to do. Graduating from Newcastle University with a First in English Literature, French & Spanish, he’s ready to push on in the journalism industry. He loves writing articles and hopes to take this passion and unite it with his drive and value for the truth to become a top journalist. He has experience with the likes of The Daily Mail and the Mirror and will undertake an NCTJ qualification.
