“It is so rewarding” – Giulia Maggiori on studying courses to achieve her ambitions

Jane Rixon

Giulia is a Senior Journal Manager at Oxford University Press, having started there as an Assistant Supplier Operations Specialist. Her Rising Star Award has funded the University of Canterbury’s Organisational Psychology MicroMasters Programme, and the CMI Certificate in Principles of Management and Leadership Level 3, to support her ambition to take advantage of the many opportunities for career growth that publishing offers.

My Rising Star application inspiration:

A few of my friends were Rising Star Award winners in 2022, so I was inspired to apply having seen what they are achieving as a result of the courses they chose. The Rising Stars is also an established, well-recognised awards programme, so I know it could help me become more visible within the publishing industry.

My courses:

The Leadership & Management course will provide me with the right skills to help me achieve my ambition of taking on more management responsibilities in the near future. I’m currently half way through the MicroMasters programme, with the goal of completing it by Christmas.

The impact winning had for me:

It really helped with my visibility within my company and my industry. My win was featured in our weekly all-company newsletter, and I featured in a Bookseller article on Rising Star winners in publishing.

Where my courses will take me:

Completing these courses will help me to apply to more senior jobs. Importantly, in addition to this, I carefully chose courses with a great focus on behavioural skills which I know can be applied within many aspects of day-to-day professional and personal life.

My message to potential Rising Star applicants:

Do it! Yes, working alongside completing the courses might be challenging at times, but it is so rewarding.

You can join the Rising Stars constellation and shine in your career.
